We understand 2020 hasn’t been the best year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. We know everybody is worried, for friends, family and themselves. This is why here at the Strohacker Design School, we have worked together with the Basepoint Chichester Enterprise Centre (BCEC) to ensure our students and staff stay safe, protected, and healthy. Using Government & NHS advice, we have compiled a set of guidelines to reassure everybody that safety is our number one priority, and still be able to live our day-to-day lives in normalcy.
Below are the precautions we have taken:
Cleaning regularly – On a daily basis we wipe down surfaces and screens, using the safest measures to ensure we are germ-free. We offer sanitary cleaning products & PPE such as:
- Anti-bacterial surface spray
- Hand wipes & hand sanitizer
- Disposable facemasks & face shields
You will also be responsible for wiping your desk/keyboard & washing your hands frequently throughout the day. Staff will clean the room mornings & evenings.
Ventilation – To stop the spread of the virus, we have our windows & doors open to ventilate the room. (Don’t worry, we have central heating for the winter!)
Face-Coverings – When walking around the building or using communal areas such as seating rooms, kitchens, toilets, etc, you are required to wear your facemask for the safety of others. You are not required to wear a facemask in the studio, sat at a desk.
Ensure Social Distancing – Partitions are in place between students & staff desks to stop the spread of contact. Due to the size of our classroom, we have taken reasonable steps to maintain a 2m distance in the studio, but we have taken all mitigating actions to ensure at least 1m distances to manage transmission risk.
Temperature Checks – We check student/staff temperatures DAILY for any signs of fever using an Infrared Temperature gun to ensure the safety of students.
Signs of Symptoms – To ensure everybody is safe, any sign of Covid-19 Symptoms will be recorded and the school will be forced to lockdown. Students & staff members will be required to self-isolate for 10-14 Days. Students & Staff will also be required to take a Covid-19 Test and will have to test NEGATIVE before returning to the school.
- A high temperature/fever
- New and persistent cough or anosmia
- Loss or change to sense of smell or taste

People who are High Risk – If you are high risk or have a compromised immune system: It is recommended for you to stay at home while working on the course! If you wish to come in and are classed as high risk, you are taking full liability for your actions. If you are at home while working on the course, we will cater to your needs with zoom meetings and any assistance we can offer while remote.
During Isolation/Lockdown – During an isolation/lockdown if Covid-19 Symptoms have been recorded, the school/studio will be closed. This does not mean the course will stop running. We have put in measures to assist and keep in contact with our students with daily Zoom meetings and briefings of projects. We want to avoid leaving our students in the dark and unsatisfied with our service.
Traveling To & From SDS – To help avoid rush hour/crowded places, we start at 9:30 everyday. This helps stagger arrival times and contact with the general public. If you are traveling via public transport, please take extra care when around the general public; Always use PPE, wash your hands regularly, avoid touching your face, and engaging with others. If you wish to come in later throughout the day, you are more than welcome to if you are worried about your safety.
Moving Around the Building – As previously stated, SDS has been working with BCEC to enforce guidelines for the safety of others:
- You are required by Basepoint Management to wear your mask in Communal areas.
- Basepoint Chichester Enterprise Centre has taken safety precautions by implementing sanitary stations with hand wipes/hand sanitizer.
- Safety tape has been placed to maintain 2m Social Distancing.
- The elevator is limited to 1 to 2 persons. Depending on your social bubble.
- The kitchen area is communal – We are not the only ones who use it. Keep the kitchen clean, don’t use other people’s cutlery. The fridge is also shared, it is recommended to bring in food that does not need to be refrigerated if you wish to avoid sharing this space with others.
- Basepoint is overall a low-traffic area, but these measures are in place to help protect us and other businesses.
Thank you for taking the time to read our guidelines. If you have any more questions on our part of COVID-19 safety and preventing it, please don’t hesitate to contact us at.
